SINGAPORE – Keppel FELS has signed an engineering services agreement with Seafox subsidiary Workfox for a purpose-built accommodation jackup rig with well intervention and P&A capabilities.
TheSeafox 8 is being developed to address forthcoming needs, with as many as 12,000 wells in the Gulf of Mexico and 6,700 wells in the North Sea that eventually will qualify as P&A candidates.
Seafox 8 will provide P&A, well intervention, accommodation, and crane support services. It will also be configured for other offshore support services.
Compared to existingjackups chartered for P&A work, Keppel FELS claims it will be 25-30% more economical in terms of day rates. It will also be the first accommodation and service jackup unit specifically designed to support rigless activities for P&A and well services at a competitive cost, the contractor adds.
Following completion of the current study, the joint venture could start work on the first jackup later this year.
Seafox CEO Keesjan Cordia said “Seafox 8offers the ideal solution as it can work all year round including during the North Sea’s winter period and undertake multiple services at a time. It is a real workhorse and unlike drilling rigs which are often used to do P&A currently, Seafox 8 has the crane capacity to assist with maintenance and well services activities. It has NORSOK-specified accommodation for crew and client personnel, and a lower operating cost than existing equipment with a single role purpose.”
The hull and legs will be based on Keppel’s new KFELS J Class design which can operate in water depths of up to 112 m (367 ft) in harsh conditions in the Norwegian North Sea.
