LONDON – Sterling Energy (UK) has updated progress on its exploration programs in two blocks offshore Madagascar.
The company and new partnerPura Vida Mauritius have started planning for a 3D seismic program over the Ambilobe block to be conducted later in 2014.
Exploration Period Phase 2 was recently extended to Sept. 2015. The production-sharing contract covers around 17,650 sq km (6,815 sq mi) in the largely unexplored Ambilobe basin, where Cretaceous and Tertiary leads have been identified.
Analysis of the new data should help mature leads for prospects, one of which will have to be drilled if the partners commit to Phase 3.
In theExxonMobil-operated offshore Ampasindava license (Sterling 30%), the partners completed acquisition of an infill 1,314-km (507-sq mi) 2D seismic program last December.
This was designed to provide additional control over theSifaka prospect and to delineate previously identified prospects within the Sifaka trend. Following processing of the data, drilling could start in 2015 or 2016.
Phase 3 of the exploration period was recently extended to Sept. 2015.
