PARIS – Nexans is to supply direct electrical heating (DEH) cable systems to BP for the Shah Deniz Stage 2 development in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea.
This will be the world’s largest DEH project to date, Nexans claims, with 130 km (81 mi) of cables providing flow assurance for 10subseaflowlines. Contract value is around $137 million.
Nexans will design, engineer, and manufacture the equipment, which will include riser cables, piggy back cables and accessories, at its subsea cable and umbilicals facility in Halden, Norway.
It will also provide an integrated protection system (IPS) to protect the piggy back cables against damage following installation on the seafloor.
First delivery of the system will start in July 2015, with the second to follow in June 2016.
