HOUSTON – Kongsberg Maritime Ltd. is adding the new MuninAUV to its subsea equipment rental pool in Aberdeen, UK.
Expected to be available for hire in October 2014, theMunin AUV will further enhance the existing portfolio of Kongsberg Maritime Ltd. rental equipment.
TheMunin AUV is designed to collect high-resolution sonar data geo-referenced by a survey-grade positioning system. Capable of providing the same performance and survey accuracy as the established Kongsberg AUV range, Munin is an efficient, compact vehicle that enables easier launch and recovery, along with the possibility of using smaller launch vessels.
Kongsberg also has unveiled a new modular leak-detection and environmental monitoring system, the Modular Subsea Monitoring (MSM) network. The MSM system is flexible for deployment on projects of all types and scale. It is designed to offer continuous monitoring of the subsea environment and alertsof events such as oil and gas leakages from subsea installations, pipelines, and risers. The first MSM systems will be delivered in 2014.
Kongsberg says that advanced data processing and power management strategies ensure MSM’s ability to deliver critical sensor data continuously, for long-duration missions. The modularity and scalability of the MSM system allows for easy deployment and adaptation to different monitoring tasks, ranging from very early leak detection and condition monitoring around subsea structures to environmental monitoring on the seabed and in the water column.
The MSM was developed in cooperation with newly acquired Kongsberg Maritime company, Embient, which provides services for underwater inspection and monitoring, as well as for subsea leak detection. Also key to the development was the inclusion of technology from German company CONTROS, a developer of underwater sensor systems to detect dissolved gases such as hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and oxygen, as well as oil in water. Kongsberg Maritime acquired 10% of the shares in CONTROS in December 2013.
