OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has cleared Gassco to remove the redundant Ekofisk 2/4-S steel jacket and tripod offshore southern Norway.
Ekofisk 2/4-S was a riser platform for reception of the Statpipe pipeline at the Ekofisk field center. The jacket was installed in 1983 and the topsides and bridges in 1984.
In 1998, the platform wasdecommissioned, with gas flow from the Statpipe pipeline run through a separate bypass around the Ekofisk center into the Norpipe pipeline to Emden, northern Germany. 2/4-S was linked to the Ekofisk center via a footbridge.
Gassco operates the platform on behalf of the Gassled owners, with Statoil as technical service provider.
In 2001, the platform superstructure and bridges were removed. The jacket and tripod are due to be taken out this summer.
