Masirah proves oil in frontier region offshore Oman

MUSCAT, Oman –Masirah Oil has discovered oil with its second well in block 50 offshore Oman.

Thecantilever jackupAban VII drilled the well to about 3,000 m (9,842 ft) into the Cambrian formation. Along the way it encountered hydrocarbons in various intervals, with good-quality oil samples.

Masirah plans further data acquisition before setting the completion for testing.

Chairman Hans Lindgren said this was the first ever discovery in the east of Oman.
