CALGARY, Canada – Husky Energy says the CNOOC-operated Liwan gas project in the South China Sea is nearing production, with commissioning of the shallow water platform and gas plant under way.
Last year’smilestones included installation of the 30,000-metric ton (33,069-ton) topsides on the shallow water jacket; construction of the onshore gas terminal; and completion of all nine subsea deepwater production wells, roughly 75 km (46.6 mi) from the platform.
Final components of the deepwater infrastructure for the Liwan 3-1 field have been installed and commissioning is proceeding.
The Liuhua 34-2 field is due to be tied into the producing Liwan deepwater facilities over a six- to eight-week period in the second half of 2014. Negotiations continue for a gas sales contract for the Liuhua 29-1 field, where Husky anticipates first production during 2016-2017.
In the Madura Strait block offshore Indonesia, Husky says engineering and procurement has started on the shallow water platform infrastructure at the BD field. A tender for an FPSO is awaiting government approval.
Negotiations continue for a gas sales contract for the combined MDA/MBH development on the Madura Strait block, with first production expected in late 2016 or in early 2017.
Additionally, the company is evaluating a recent new natural gas discovery on the block, along with four previous finds from 2012. Husky has a 50% interest in the MBF discovery, west of the MBH field.
Elsewhere in the Asia/Pacific region, a 2D seismic survey is under way on a Husky-operated exploration block offshore southwest Taiwan. The remainder of the program is expected to be completed later this year.
Offshore Newfoundland & Labrador, gas injection is expected to begin soon at the South White Rose, where first oil is due out later in the year.
At the West White Rose field, the partners have signed a benefits agreement with the provincial government. Construction has started of a graving dock to support wellhead platform construction, with first production scheduled for 2017, subject to approvals.
Finally, Husky and operator Statoil have secured a drilling rig to appraise last year’sHarpoon and Bay du Nord oil discoveries in the Flemish Pass basin and the earlier Mizzen discovery.
