STAVANGER, Norway – GE Oil & Gas is supplying Statoil Petroleum with its fifth-generation SemStar5 subsea electronics module.
The equipment is expected to upgrade and extend the life of the subsea production control system for theTroll B field in the Norwegian North Sea, 65 km (40 mi) west of Kollsnes, near Bergen.
GE Oil & Gas designed, built, and installed the original Troll Bsubsea production system in 1995. The new control system will upgrade all wells on manifolds D, E, F, G, and H.
SemStar5 will replace the existing technology. It is designed to support the higher bandwidth requirements of modern instrumentation while also offering high reliability, GE claims.
First application of the new technology was for Statoil’sTordis Vigdis controls modification project in the North Sea, in around 656 ft (200 m) of water.
The equipment for Troll B is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2015.
