HOUSTON– Shell’s Arctic drilling rig Kulluk is now in safe harbor on Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. It had broken free and run aground on tow from Alaska to Seattle, Washington.
The rig will have a safety assessment prior to resuming the trip.
“At this stage, it’s too early to gauge any impact on ourongoing exploration plans, but with the Kulluk now safely recovered, we’ll carry out a detailed assessment of the vessel to understand what those impacts might be,” said Marvin Odum, president, Shell Oil Co. “In the meantime, we will participate in the US Coast Guard’s investigation into the causes of this incident and will implement lessons learned.”
