HOUSTON –The Royal Dutch Shell Plc Kullukconical drilling rig broke free and ran aground offshore Sitkalidak Island, Alaska, while on its way to Seattle. The event is a maritime transportation incident and does not involve drilling, said Shell.
The US Coast Guard over-flew the location and reported no leaking fuel.
Shell owns the rig and it is operated by Noble Corp.
Weather at the time of the incident was reported to have 35-45 ft (11-14 m) waves plus 50-knot winds.
