PORTO AMBOIM, Angola – Total’s new FPSOCLOV has undergone a naming ceremony at the Paenal shipyard in Angola.
The vessel arrived at the Porto Amboim Estaleiros Navais (Paenal) yard on Nov. 8, following an 18,520-km (11,508-mi) voyage from the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea. This was also the first FPSO to berth at any African quayside.
In 2008, Sonangol and SBM Offshore started work on plans to build Angola’s first major offshore fabrication and integration yard at the site, in particular for floaters, with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine joining the program in 2010.
In July, the yard’s 2,500-ton heavy lift crane Jamba was inaugurated, and in mid-November, the 1,836-ton M122 module, fabricated at Paenal, was lifted onboardFPSOCLOV. This was reportedly the first ever topsides module integration performed in Africa.
The crane, and the 490-m (1,607-ft), purpose-built quayside means the yard can handle installation of topsides into very large FPSOs. It is also capable of producing up to 10,000 tons/yr of modules.
