STOCKHOLM, Sweden --The Bredford Dolphin has completed the latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup field in Norwegian North Sea license PL501.
Well 16/3-7 was drilled at the structure’ssouth-eastern flank. Operator Lundin Norway’saims were to determine depth to the top of the reservoir, reservoir thickness, and the oil-water contact.
The well encountered 50-m (164-ft) gross reservoir thickness, slightly deeper than expected, comprising 14 m (46 ft) of late Jurassic sandstone and 36 m (118 ft) of Permian dolomitic carbonates.
Although the oil/water contact was not proven, oil and water were sampled in the uppermost part of the reservoir at 1,925 m (6,315 ft) below mean sea level, suggesting a contact point close to this level.
