LONDON – GDF SUEZ E&P UK has contracted AMEC to hook up and commission (HUC) the Cygnus gas field development in the UK southern North Sea.

The contract for the fourCygnus platforms follows AMEC’s front-end engineering design and detail design work.

AMEC’s offshore North Sea team, based out of Aberdeen, will handle the HUC program, supported by the company’s completions and commissioning specialist qedi.

Cygnus, on the Dogger Bank in the southern sector, is being developed through one permanently manned main hub, Cygnus Alpha. This will comprise three bridge-linked platforms providing drilling, accommodation, processing, and export.

A second wellhead platform, Cygnus Bravo, will be installed in the western part of the field, 7 km (4.3 mi) from the Alpha complex.

A new 51-km (31.6 mi) export pipeline will transfer Cygnus’ gas to the Esmond Transportation System trunkline that terminates in Bacton on the Norfolk coast.
