STOCKHOLM, Sweden – RWE Dea Norge’s first wildcat on the Utgard High in the Norwegian Sea is a dry hole.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Winner drilled well 6608/2-1S targeting the Sverdrup prospect in license PL330, 60 km (37 mi) east-southeast of the Aasta Hansteen gas field.

According to partner Lundin Petroleum, the well confirmed the existence of an active petroleum system but did not encounter reservoir rocks. It is being P&A’d.

Alex Schneiter, COO of Lundin said: “Despite the results of this well we still believe the Utgard High has interesting exploration potential.”

Transocean Winner now heads to PL 203 in the North Sea to complete production wells on the Alvheim field for operator Marathon Oil Norge.
