LONDON – Oil & Gas UK has published new documents concerning decommissioning issues on the UK continental shelf (UKCS).
Decommissioning Insight, the association’s annual forecast for activity on the shelf, estimates total spending of more than $51 billion on decommissioning of UK assets between 2013 and 2022. This figure is based on feedback from 27 operators.
The second publication, Oil & Gas UK Guidelines on Decommissioning Cost Estimation 2013, provides a method to divide into phases the process of decommissioning. The aim is to facilitate sound and consistent decommissioning cost estimates.
Another new report from the association is “Decommissioning of Pipelines in theNorth Sea Region.” Oil & Gas UK’s environmental issues director, Mick Borwell, said: “The report provides a picture of the scale of pipeline infrastructure, an overview of pipeline decommissioning to date, and highlights the technical capabilities and limitations that currently impact decommissioning options. This gives an insight into the potential opportunities for technology development.”
