DUBLIN, Ireland – Petroceltic’s gas facilities in the Bulgarian sector of the Black Sea are producing 28 MMcf/d (793,000 cm/d).
The Kaliakra-1 discovery well is being tied into the Galata complex, and is expected to start producing later this month.
However, theKamchia well drilled in May was dry. Petroceltic is reviewing remaining prospectivity in the region and has applied to enter the next license phase without committing to a firm exploration well.
Offshore Romania, the jackupGSP Prometeu has started drilling the first prospect on the Est Cobalcescu block. It is targeting a total of 404 bcf across multiple horizons. The rig will then drill a well on the Muridava license and target a 169-bcf prospect.
In the Adriatic Sea offshore eastern Italy, Petroceltic hopes to drill theElsa-2 well soon. Main recent work has been preparation of materials to support the environmental approval process, and refinement of the drilling and development plan.
Last year the company, in partnership with Hellenic Petroleum and Edison, submitted a bid for thePatraikos block in the Gulf of Patra offshore western Greece. Last month the Greek government confirmed the award, subject to final ratification of the associated agreements.
Patraikos spans 1,892 sq km (730 sq mi) in water of mainly 100-300 m (328-984 ft). The concession could be prospective for oil in the Jurassic, Cretaceous, and Eocene formations. The 1982 Katakolon oil discovery, drilled 35 km (22 mi) south of the block, proved a working hydrocarbon system.
