STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Lundin Norway has positive results from its latest well on the Johan Sverdrup in the Norwegian North Sea.
The semisubmersibleBredford Dolphin drilled appraisal well 16/5-4 in the southwestern part of license PL501. The well encountered a 6-m (19.7-ft) oil column in Upper Jurassic sandstone, 4 km (2.5 mi) southwest of appraisal well 16/5-2S and 3 km (1.8 mi) southeast of well 16/5-3 in the adjoining PL502. It did not establish the oil/water contact.
A pressure gauge has been installed in the hole to monitor the reservoir pressure for two to five years. The well has been P&A’d.
Ashley Heppenstall, president and CEO of Lundin Petroleum, said: “The major uncertainties associated with this appraisal well were the time-depth conversion to the top of the reservoir and the presence of reservoir. In this respect we are pleased to have proved the extension of the reservoir at this location with excellent sand quality.”
Bredford Dolphin will now drill appraisal well 16/3-7 on Johan Sverdrup’s southeastern flank, also in PL501.
