HOUSTON– Total has had to re-spud the deepwater Diaman #1 presalt exploratory well offshore Gabon, according to partner Cobalt International Energy.

Diaman #1 was spudded on the Diaba block on April 17, but the operation had to be re-started due to mechanical problems with the original wellbore. Results from the well are expected later in the current quarter.

To the south, Cobalt is drillingtwo deepwater wells as operator offshore Angola. The Diamond Ocean Confidence began drilling the Mavinga #1 presalt exploratory well on block 21 in early May.

Later that month the newbuild Petroserv SSVCatarina rig spudded a well on another presalt prospect, Lontra #1. Results from both wells are expected to be released later this year.

Cobalt continues its pre-development activities for theCameia field in block 21. This spring the company performed a variety of subsurface evaluations and acquired a new 3D seismic survey over the field to refine and mature potential well locations for various development scenarios.

The company expects formal sanction for a development next year followed by first production in 2017, assuming continued alignment with its partners and Sonangol.
