LONDON – SOCO International says the Lideka East Marine-1 well (LDKEM-1) has encountered oil offshore Republic of Congo (Brazzaville).
The well on the Marine XI block targeted a postsalt structure, updip from the Lideka Marine-1 well that found shows of oil in the Sendji formation. SOCO had mapped a four-way dip closed structure, interpreting those shows to be associated with a potential oil-water contact in the structure.
LDKEM-1 was drilled to a TD of 2,008 m (6,588 ft). Oil is present in both the Upper Sendji and intra-Sendji 3 intervals, as indicated by oil shows and wireline logs. Initial analysis suggests 50 m (164 ft) of net pay in the Upper Sendji, and preparations are under way to drillstem test the intra-Sendji 3 interval.
SOCO also plans further evaluation and mapping of the prognosed oil reservoir in the Upper Sendji, with untested updip potential eastward from the drilled location.
