LONDON – SOCO has spudded its latest exploration well offshore Republic of Congo.

LDKEM-1 is being drilled on the Lideka East Marine prospect in the Marine XI license offshore Pointe Noire.

The well will test a postsalt structure of the Sendji formation in the Lower Congo basin, updip from the 2009 Lideka Marine-1 well, which generated oil shows.

The Sendji formation is in a four-way structural dip closure at the well location. Additionally, the lower part of the Tchala formation is in structural closure with a fault seal to the north and east. LDKEM-1 will also likely test the reservoir potential of the Lower Tchala.

It is estimated to take 30-35 days to reach the target depth.
