LONDON -- BG has a further gas discovery in deepwater block 1 offshore Tanzania.
The Mkizi-1 well was drilled by theDeepsea Metro I drillship in 1,301 m (4,268 ft) of water, at a location between the Mzia and Jodari discoveries. It encountered gas pay in three reservoir intervals within a Tertiary age stacked channel complex.
According to partnerOphir Energy total net pay was 33 m (108 ft), with good reservoir quality – all three intervals exhibited high quality porosities and permeabilities. Ophir estimates mean recoverable resources at 600 bcf.
Deepsea Metro I will next drill two appraisal wells for the partners, including a drillstem test, on the Pweza discovery in block 4. This will be the first DST on the various block 4 finds.
