STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The semisubmersible Bredford Dolphin has completed the latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup field in the Norwegian North Sea license PL501.
According to operator Lundin Norway, the well was drilled 3.8 km (2.4 mi) north and 2.5 km (1.55 mi) west of two previous wells on the structure. It encountered a 12-m (39.3-ft) net oil column in a good-quality Jurassic reservoir sequence of 30 m (98.4 ft).
Oil/water contact was established at 1,922 m (6,306 ft) below mean sea level. The well will be P&A’d, and the rig will next drill well 16/3-6 on the northeast flank of the discovery.
Ashley Heppenstall, president and CEO of parent company Lundin Petroleum, said: “The latest Johan Sverdrup appraisal well provides a further important data point and will be incorporated into the latest reservoir model which will be used to update resource estimates later this year.”
