LONDON –PGS has started processing data from a recent 3D seismic survey over various licenses south of the Falkland Islands for Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd (FOGL) and its partners.
TheM/V Ramform Sterling acquired 5,235 sq km (2,021 sq mi) of full-fold 3D data over the deepwater Mid-Cretaceous Diomedea fan system, which spans a total area of around 7,000 sq km (2,703 sq mi). FOGL had earlier identified numerous prospects and leads from existing 2D seismic, but the new data will allow them to be mapped in greater detail.
First processed results should be available for interpretation in August, and will be used to start prospect mapping and well planning.
A second 3D seismic survey began in April over the partners’ Cretaceous fault blocks in the South Falkland basin. This survey is designed to cover prospects and leads adjacent to Borders & Southern’sDarwin gas condensate discovery, where probable recoverable reserves are 200 MMbbl.
From the existing 2D data FOGL has identified structures such as Inflexible, Scharnhorst, and Nurnberg that could be analogous to Darwin.
A third 3D survey over the northern license area is in the planning stage, with tender offers from various contractors under review.
Noble Energy, whichfarmed into some of FOGL’s concessions last year, will operate the next drilling program. Noble has established a technical and operations team for the Falklands and is looking for a suitable rig to start drilling in the second half of 2014.
