BREDA, the Netherlands – Dockwise has contracted Emerson Process Management to supply the control systems for the giant new semisubmersible heavy transport vessel Dockwise Vanguard.

The vessel is designed for heavy marine transport and offshore dry docking, which allows field developers to design and build larger and heavier offshore structures including FPSOs.

Loading capacity is up to 110,000 metric tons (121,254 tons) and the bowless design means the large structures can be loaded out from the yard and transported intact to remote offshore drilling or production sites.

Emerson is supplying a comprehensive ballast control system, responsible for helping theDockwise Vanguard to submerge and raise itself with stability and integrity.

The equipment relies on tank gauging systems that provide accurate level measurements for load calculations as well as high level and overfill alarms. Additionally,Dockwise Vanguard uses Emerson’s Smart Wireless technology to measure and transmit tank level data to the wheelhouse.
