STAVANGER Norway – Aibel has moved the topsides for Statoil’s Gudrun field development in the North Sea out of the construction hall in Risøy, western Norway.

The structure is mechanically complete. Following testing and completion work, including pipe insulation, surface treatment, and installation of lifeboats and deck cranes, it is expected to be ready to sail to the offshore location on July 11.

To move the 11,600-ton structure 80 m (262 ft) from the interior of the North Sea Hall to the quay outside, 1,700 wheels on 428 axles had to be placed beneath the deck. The moving operation lasted roughly two and a half hours.

Theplatform will remain on the quay until mid-June, when it will be transferred to a barge for tow-out.
