ABERDEEN, UK – Another hydrocarbon release has been detected in one of the Cormorant Alpha platform legs in the UK northern North Sea.
It was first reported early Saturday morning during maintenance work. The platform and associated pipeline infrastructure were shut down as a precaution.
According to operator TAQA Bratani, the incident has been contained with no further issue of hydrocarbons. The release remained within the platform leg, and no hydrocarbons entered the environment.
Seventy-one non-essential personnel have been evacuated from the platform via crew change flights. TAQA and its partners are working to restore operations on theBrent pipeline system as soon as possible.
Cormorant North is 232 mi (373 km) from Peterhead on Scotland’s eastern coast. A hydrocarbon release earlier this year, thought to be in the same affected leg, also led to a temporary shutdown of both the platform and the Brent pipeline system.
