COPENHAGEN, Denmark– The Danish Underground Consortium (DUC) is moving to establish a research center in Denmark to find new ways to improve oil and gas production from Danish fields.
This will involve collaboration with leading Danish and foreign universities, with DUC partners A.P. Moller - Maersk, Shell, Chevron, and Nordsøfonden financing certain projects.
Another goal, according to Maersk, is to stimulate interest in oil and gas relevant disciplines among students, to ensure Denmark has the necessary knowledge and personnel for North Sea oil and gas extraction for the years ahead.
“Preparatory work, including the composition of the research center’s management and the formulation of the specific areas of research, has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of the year,” said Troels Albrechtsen, senior vice president of Maersk Oil.
Management of the research center will likely be located at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Maersk plans to involve other research groups from the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, and Aalborg University in setting the framework and conditions for the new research center.
