OSLO, Norway– Kvaerner says construction is under way of the gravity base structure (GBS) for ExxonMobil’s Hebron platform, following refurbishment of the Bull Arm site in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The GBS steel skirts have been installed, allowing base slab construction to progress. Detailed engineering for the project is also advancing, Kvaerner says.
In Norway, the company’s yards and subcontractors have started fabrication of the jackets for theEdvard Grieg and Martin Linge developments in the North Sea.
Both ofBP’s Clair Ridge platform jackets (to be installed west of Shetland) are approaching the end of the assembly phase and should be delivered this spring.
Kvaerner has two other ongoing North Sea projects. The Edvard Grieg topside project is in the detailed engineering and procurement phase, while assembly is progressing at the Stord yard ofConocoPhillips’ Eldfisk 2/7S topsides.
As for future concrete substructure prospects, Kvaerner sees increased demand for new oil and gas developments inArctic regions including Canada, Alaska, and the Kara Sea off northern Russia. Various operators are stepping up activities in the Arctic, with Kvaerner winning several studies.
Elsewhere, the company submitted its tender forWoodside’s Browse project offshore northwest Australia last April. A final investment decision is expected by mid-year.
