LONDON– The drillship Stena DrillMax has completed drilling the Shell-operated Zaedyus-2 appraisal well (GM-ES-2) offshore French Guiana.
According to partner Tullow Oil, the location was 5 km (3.1 mi) updip from theZaedyus-1 oil discovery. The well intersected 85 m (279 ft) of reservoir quality sands with oil shows, but no commercial hydrocarbons.
Analysis of the results suggests the reservoirs at this location do not communicate with Zaedyus-1.
Tullow claims the result has no bearing on the undrilled prospectivity downdip of Zaedyus-1, and that future drilling on the Zaedyus fan system should target upside in this area, and the downdip elements of Zaedyus Deep.
This latest well was drilled in a water depth of 1,894 m (6,214 ft), to a subsurface depth of 6,200 m (20,341 ft). The second well of the current four-well campaign is expected to spud soon, targeting the Priodontes prospect within the same Cingulata fan system.
