STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The semisubmersible Transocean Winner has started drilling Lundin Norway’s latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea.
Well 16/2-16 is being drilled on license on the north eastern flank of the discovery. The aims are to establish depth, quality, and thickness of the Jurassic reservoir sequences 3 km (1.8 mi) from well 16/2-13A in the same license, and well 16/2-10 in Statoil-operated PL265.
Both these wells both found encountered better reservoir and deeper oil water contacts than seen elsewhere in the field.
Lundin’s expects to find only a limited oil column at the latest location. But the well should provide important data on depth conversion and improved understanding of aquifer support.
Planned TD is roughly 2,250 m (7,382 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling should last about 50 days.
