TRONDHEIM, Norway – The semisubmersible Ocean Vanguard is close to completing the latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup discovery in the Norwegian North Sea.
Well 16/2-14T2 was drilled on theEspevær High in license PL 265, 6 km (3.7 mi) northwest of the discovery well (16/2-6) and 3 km (1.9 mi) northwest of appraisal well 16/2-8. Water depth was 113 m (371 ft).
Partner Det norske oljeselskap claims the well results are very good, and should eliminate uncertainty over reservoir quality on the northern part of centralJohan Sverdrup.
The purpose of this latest well was to determine reservoir properties and thickness, and to acquire data in shallow sections of the well to assist planning for the development. The well encountered a 30-m (98-ft) oil column in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks of high reservoir quality throughout the entire interval. No oil-water contact was encountered.
Data acquisition and sampling has been performed in several sections of the well, including the reservoir section. The well will be permanently P&A’d.
Ocean Vanguard will next drill appraisal well 16/2-15 on the same license, 7 km (4.3 mi) southeast of 16/2-14T2, another ongoing well.
