Iran lines up next wave of offshore drilling

Iranian Offshore Oil Co. (IOOC) and Petro Iran have signed an agreement on drilling 12 wells in the Persian Gulf.

TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian Offshore Oil Co. (IOOC) and Petro Iran have signed an agreement on drilling 12 wells in the Persian Gulf. Seven will be on oil and gas fields shared with Iran’s neighbors.

IOOC Managing Director Mahmoud Zirakchinazadeh, referring to untapped reserves in both the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea, said that the planned wells, following acurrent 3D seismic survey over the designated area, “can provide us with accurate information on hydrocarbon structures of the region.”

The survey has been completed over the offshoreArash, Frazad A and B, Foroz B, Chabok, Siri A, and Tousan fields, and is 50% of the way through over the Alfa field.

Additionally, IOOC has licenses for further seismic operations over 1,500 km (932 mi) of border areas.
