PARIS – Technip (Paris: TEC) and Heerema Marine Contractors have signed a five-year alliance agreement to cooperate globally in the ultra-deepwater subsea market.
According to Technip, installation of ultra-deepwater infield pipelines is set to grow at 15% annually over the next five years.
Challenges for the clients of both contracting groups are:
- Increasing size and complexity of ultra-deepwater projects, requiring extensive project management skills and execution track record
- Complexity of deepwater reservoirs which demand technology investment to optimize field design and to provide solutions conditions of high-pressure/high-temperature or highly corrosive hydrocarbons
- Deeper water and heavier pipes increase pipe-tensioning and installation requirements for specialized pipelay vessels.
Under the agreement, both groups will make available their complementary assets for ultra-deepwater EPCI projects by offering an international network of engineering centers; project management capabilities and experience in very large and complex ultra-deepwater projects; a network of logistic bases and manufacturing plants; high-tension J-lay vessels, provided by Heerema through its vesselsAegir (under construction) and Balder; S-lay and reel-lay capabilities.
The two companies plan to bid jointly on various major projects over the next few years.
