SYDNEY, Australia --Roc Oil (China) says new oil has been discovered within WZ6-12 and WZ12-8 West Oil Field Development areas in the Beibu Gulf offshore China,
While drilling the WZ6-12N-1 verticalexploration well, the HYSY 931 rig encountered a total of 52 m (170 ft) net oil pay in the primary objectives in the Wezhou formation and a further 7 m (23 ft) net pay in shallower reservoirs.
This was the first of a three-well exploration program. It was drilled 1 km (0.6 mi) northeast from the WZ 6-12-1 well in 29 m (95 ft) of water, and reached a TD of 1,605 m (5,266 ft).
After completion of wireline logging, the well will be P&A’d and the rig will transfer to the A6 exploration well location on the WZ 6-12 South field.
ROC CEO Alan Linn said: "The results of the well will materially enhance the value of the overall Beibu project for ROC and its joint venture partners. The now larger WZ6-12 North field will be fully developed as part of the combined WZ 6-12 and WZ 12-8W field development, which is currently under way.
“Provision has been made in the facility design to provide capacity for new oil zones discovered in the exploration drilling program.”
