SANDNES, Norway – Eni (MI: ENI; NYSE: E) has discovered gas condensate in the Salina structure in the Barents Sea.
The Saipem semisubmersibleScarabeo 8 drilled exploration well 7220/10-1 in 348 m (1,142 ft) of water on license PL 533, on the west flank of the Loppa High. It is 50 km (31 mi) northwest of the producing Snøhvit field.
The well proved two gas columns in Cretaceous and Jurassic sandstones combined.
Downhole data, including coring, wireline logging, and fluid sampling, confirmed good reservoir quality.
Early analysis by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate suggests reserves in the range of 29-41 MMboe. This was the first well on the license, awarded under Norway’s 20th licensing round. It will be P&A’d.
Scarabeo 8 will transfer to the Goliat field in the same region to start production drilling.
One of Eni’s partners in Salina, Lundin Norway, expects the semisubmersibleTransocean Arctic to start drilling its Juksa and Snurrevad prospects later this month in Barents Sea license PL490.
