OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway says a substantial leak of hydrocarbons occurred on BP Norge’s Ula oil field in the North Sea last week.
No one was injured and no damage was caused to the installation beyond the equipment directly involved. PSA believes there could have been major consequences, and will therefore investigate the incident.
The leak arose in the separator module on Ula’s production platform.
The facility was automatically shut down, and all personnel onboard evacuated to the drilling platform. Production on Ula has since been suspended.
Ula has been developed via three bridge-linked steel platforms for production, drilling, and living quarters.
