STAVNAGER, Norway –Statoil is preparing its most intensive exploratory drilling campaign to date in the Barents Sea, said VP, Exploration Tim Dodson today at ONS.
The Seadrill drillshipWest Hercules is undergoing winterization ahead of the program, which starts with back to back wells on four prospects northeast of the recent Skrugard and Havis oil discoveries – Nunatak, Kramsno, Skavl, and Isrystall.
On seismic, these show up as similar flat spots to those finds, although probably with smaller volumes.
After completion of drilling in mid-2013 Statoil aims to select a development concept for the area, targeting first oil in 2018.
Next up should be wells on the Wisting, Apollo, and Atlantis structures in the Hoop area, the most northerly wells drilled so far offshore Norway. Finally the focus switches to the Hammerfest basin, with wells in the Snohvit and Goliath areas, and possible wildcats on the Ensis and Askepott structures.
“We are also looking forward to Norway’s 22nd concession round, as we’re eager to access more acreage in this region,” Dodson said.
Offshore Newfoundland, Statoil has started 3D seismic acquisition over the Flemish Pass area, west of the Mizzen oil discovery. And the company has secured another deep water Seadrill rigWest Aquarius for wells later this year and 2013 on the Cupids and Harpoons structures in this region.
