LONDON – Serica Energy is close to completing farm-out negotiations for two licenses offshore Morocco.
The Sidi Moussa and adjacent Foum Draa petroleum blocks cover a total of 12,700 sq km (4,903 sq mi) in the Tarfaya-Ifni basin, in waters stretching from the coastline out to 2,000 m (6,561 ft).
Serica says the Tarfaya-Ifni basin is geologically analogous to the oil-producing salt basins of West Africa. Both licenses are covered by more than 5,200 sq km (2,007 sq mi) of modern 3D seismic and more than 7,000 km (4,349 mi) of 2D data.
Evaluation has demonstrated the presence of a large number of salt diaper-related prospects, stratigraphic traps, and tilted fault block plays. Applications are in progress for the second period of both licenses, with a commitment to drill one deepwater well on each.
