SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands – Representatives of SBM Offshore (AMS:SBMO), Talisman Energy (TSX:TLM;NYSE:TLM), respective consultants, and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) met yesterday to discuss progress on the delayed Yme development offshore Norway.
The meeting addressed issues concerning potential cracks in the grouting around the legs of the Yme MOPU STOR platform, and Talisman’s decision to demobilize and evacuate the platform earlier this week.
The parties examined the calculation reports submitted by SBM, and discussed the potential cracks, causes and treatment options. DNV, the appointed independent third-party assessor, agreed to deliver a report on the safety of the platform to Talisman and SBM.
Following the talks, SBM says it has found no reason to change its view that the platform is, and has been, a safe operating environment for all project teams. However, Talisman as operator has decided not to remobilize yet.
Bruno Chabas, CEO of SBM Offshore, said: “Today’s meeting was a constructive discussion. We have to respect that Talisman, as operator, can take this decision. SBM Offshore is committed, now as before, to completing this facility swiftly, efficiently, and safely, and bringing it onstream for the benefit of our client and the host authority, Norway. However, we are exploring other avenues to get back on board of the platform and finish the work.”
