OSLO, Norway – BP Norge has proven further gas in the Skarv area of the Norwegian Sea.
The semisubmersiblePolar Pioneer drilled well 6507/3-9 S in 365 m (1,197 ft) water depth, 20 km (12.4 mi) north of the Skarv field, and 5 km (3.1 mi) east of the Marulk field.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the well successfully proved gas in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks (the Lysing formation), with reservoir quality as expected. Early analysis suggests 1.2-2.3 bcm (42-81 bcf) recoverable.
Polar Pioneer will continue pre-drilling of production wells for the Skarv field development.
