Offshore staff
BRISTOL, UK – Norwest Energy and partner Wessex Exploration have signed license P1928 off southern England, covering offshore Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight.
The 243.6-sq km (94-sq mi) permit is between Wessex’s existing onshore licences PEDL’s 238 and 239, and just east of thePerenco-operated Wytch Farm oil field.
It is a “Promote license,” valid for two years, extendable to a full-traditional license with a four-year duration, and a single exploratory well commitment.
The area covered contains the Steelhead and Beluga leads, both near the coast, and accessible via slightly deviated exploratory wells drilled from shore. There are further small fault block leads in line with and off the eastern end of the Wytch Farm field.
Initial work will comprise purchasing and reprocessing of existing legacy seismic data, and acquisition of 70 km (43 mi) of new 2D seismic. This work will start once relevant environmental studies are completed and official authorizations are received.
According to Wessex, technical work to date suggests a large volume of generated oil previously trapped in the Wytch Farm structure could have re-migrated into the area of the Steelhead and Beluga leads.
