OSLO, Norway – Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has made more offshore blocks available under the country’s 22nd licensing round.
Eighty-six blocks/part-blocks are on offer, 14 in the Norwegian Sea and the remaining 72 in theBarents Sea.
“The interest in exploring in the Barents Sea has increased considerably after Statoil and the license partners found oil and gas onSkrugard [well 7220/8-1] in 2011,” said Sissel Eriksen, exploration director at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. “More exploration is now taking place throughout the southern Barents Sea, and there is renewed optimism and expectation of discoveries. This licensing round will contribute to maintaining the activity level in this area and to clarifying the resource potential in the Barents Sea.”
The deadline for application submissions is Dec. 4, with new licenses set to be issued before summer 2013.
