TEHRAN – North Drilling Co. (NDC) is preparing to transfer the Sahar-1 rig to the Persian Gulf to drill on the Farzad-A field.
NDC managing director Hedayatollah Khademi told Iranian new service Shana the company plans to acquire a further four offshore drilling rigs, at an estimated cost of $170 million each.
Another Shana report claims that development drilling operations on Iran’s offshore Kish field are 70% complete. Kish is said to be the country’s biggest independent gas field with reserves of 66 tcf (South Pars overlaps into Qatari waters, where it is known as the North field).
According to Mehran Makvandi, deputy managing director ofNational Iranian Drilling Co., two rigs are drilling 12 development wells and one appraisal well in the area.
Iran is looking to supply Kish’s gas to neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf, as well as for its own domestic needs.
