OSLO, Norway –Aker Solutions has committed to a new steel tube umbilical manufacturing plant in Pekan, Malaysia, to service growth in the Asia/Pacific region.
Aker will invest $60 million in the new facility, close to Kuantan on Malaysia’s east coast.
The company already has a regional head office for umbilicals in Kuala Lumpur managed by Crawford Tennant, former head of the Aker Solutions branch in Port Klang.
The new Pekan facility should begin operations late in 2013, and, will complement Aker’s existing umbilical manufacturing plants in Moss, Norway, and Mobile, Alabama.
