ERLANGEN, Germany – Siemens has agreed to buy Expro’s Connectors & Measurements (C&M) business for $630 million.
This includes Tronic and Matre, which design, manufacture, assemble and install subsea electrical power and data connectors, and temperature and pressure sensors.
C&M employs 450 personnel in Ulverton, northwest England, Bomlo in Norway, Houston, Niterói in Brazil, and Johor in Malaysia. Last year the business had revenues of $119 million.
Siemens says the range of technologies acquired form a crucial part of the power grid the company is developing for use on equipment such as subsea pumps and compressors on the seafloor at water depths down to 3,000 m (9,842 ft).
In March 2011, Siemens also acquired Norwegian companies Bennex and Poseidon, both specialists in subsea power distribution systems, marinization, and general subsea engineering.
As part of its Power Grid development program Siemens last year opened a technology and test center for subsea equipment in Trondheim, Norway. Over the next few years it plans to expand subsea activities by offering its full product range in Houston, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore.
