TEHRAN, Iran – National Iranian Drilling Co. (NIDC) is drilling more than 70 wells for five new development phases of the South Pars field in the Persian Gulf.
Mohammad Reza Takaidi, deputy managing director of Drilling Projects, told Iranian news service Shana that the company had finished operations on Phase 10 and was close to doing so onPhase 9. Work on phases 14, 17 and 18 continues.
He added that theShahid Rajaee rig, which the company has operated since 1985, had demobilized from the drilling site of the Farzad 2 exploratory well and should be deployed soon on Phase 14.
A consortium of eight Iranian contractors and manufacturing companies are building the Phase 14 offshore facilities under a $5.25-billion program. Two drilling platforms and 20 development wells are planned, with the aim of producing 50 MMcm (1.77 bcf) of sweet gas and 75,000 b/d of gas condensates.
First-stage drilling on phases 17 and 18 started in March 2010. According to Pars Oil & Gas Co., Dana Drilling Co. will drill the remaining 22 development wells under the second and final stage.
In this case, a consortium of Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO), Oil Industries’ Engineering and Construction (OIEC), and Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Co. are responsible for production facilities.
These comprise four platforms, sea lines, and gas processing plants. Installation of the platforms should be completed in the next few months.
On South Pars phases 22 and 24, four drilling rigs should be in operation in September following installation of all four jackets. In total they will drill 38 wells.
Sadra Co. will start installation of the 110-km (68-mi) seabed pipeline in May. Sadra and Petrosina Aria signed the development contract for these two phases in mid-2011.
