RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras reports discovery of light oil in the Tiro and Sidon area of the south Santos basin.
The accumulation at well 4-SPS-91, known as Patola, is in a water depth of 299 m (981 ft), 200 km (124 mi) off the coast of SĂŁo Paulo state. It is also 3.8 km (2ÂĽ mi) from discovery well 1-SPS-57 in the Evaluation Plan area comprising wells 1-SPS-56 and 1-SPS-57, in the former block BM-S-40.
Early analyses suggest Patola’s 36° API oil is of the same quality as the oil found in the earlier exploration wells, and confirms the potential for good quality oil in the shallow waters of this part of the Santos basin.
Cable test oil samples taken from the postsalt sandstone confirmed the find. The reservoir is 2,160 m (7,086 ft) deep.
Petrobras plans to pursue other activities set out in the Evaluation Plan, and will proceed with an extended well test. Other EWTs are currently in progress on wells 1-SPS-56 and 1-SPS-57.
