ABERDEEN, UK – The Parkmead Group has completed an agreement with XTO UK to acquire a 15% stake in three UK offshore blocks containing the Platypus gas field and the Possum gas prospect.
Blocks 48/1a, 47/5b, and 48/1c are all in the UK southern North Sea.
Some of the Parkmead team were involved in Dana Petroleum’s discovery of the Platypus Rotliegendes gas accumulation (well 48/1a-5), which encountered 218 vertical ft of gas- bearing sands. In-place reserves could be up to 180 ft (55 m).
Platypus is 18 km (11.2 mi) north-northwest of the West Sole gas field and 15 km (9.3 mi) west-southwest of the Babbage gas field. The discovery well was suspended by Dana for potential re-entry and future use as a gas production well.
Possum, another Rotliegendes gas prospect, is adjacent to Platypus, with estimated in-place resources of 100 bcf.
Dana as operator has contracted a rig to drill a well on the Platypus/Possum complex early next year. This will be drilled horizontally through the Rotliegendes gas reservoir to confirm deliverability, and likely will be kept for use as a gas producer.
