TEESSIDE, UK – The heavy-lift vessel Thialf has completed installation of the Breagh Alpha platform in the UK North Sea for RWE Dea UK.
The 4,000-metric ton (4,409-ton) jacket and eight piles were installed in 62 m (203 ft) of water, 100 km (62 mi) off Teesside, northeast England.
This was followed by lifting and setting of the 1,400-metric ton (1,543-ton) integrated deck topsides.
Earlier this year installation was completed of the pipelines that will transport gas from the Breagh field to the shore. First gas is scheduled for mid-2012. Breagh is in blocks 42/12a and 42/13a. The field is being developed in two phases.
Phase 1 entails gas export the 20-in. (51-cm) pipeline from the Breagh Alpha platform to Coatham Sands, Redcar, and onward through a 10-km (6.2-mi) overland pipeline to the Teesside Gas Processing Plant (TGPP) at Seal Sands.
Phase 2 – field development approval is expected early next year – will likely involve additional wells in the east of the field drilled from another platform (Breagh Bravo) tied back to Alpha.
