HOUSTON – Coastal Energy has found more hydrocarbons with its latest well in the Bua Ban field in the Gulf of Thailand.

Bua Ban North A-05 was drilled to a TD of 5,650 ft TVD. It encountered 81 ft (24.7 m) of gross sand and 35 ft (10.7 m) of net pay in the Miocene reservoir with 27% average porosity.

The well tested the Miocene reservoir on the eastern flank of the Bua Ban North A field, with an oil/water contact proven at 3,770 ft (1,149 m).

Coastal plans to drill five to six further evaluation wells at Bua Ban North before moving the rig to G5/50.

The Bua Ban North B-02, B-03 and B-04 wells have all been completed and tied into the production facilities, lifting production from Bua Ban North B to roughly 8,200 b/d.

Average production at Coastal’s Songkhla A field is currently down to 4,000 b/d due to temperature issues. The company is installing additional cooling units which it expects to solve the problem, restoring output to 6,500 b/d. Installation should be completed within a fortnight.
